Cottage Country

The Township of Muskoka Lakes, Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough County make up what we familiarly refer to as Cottage Country. Millenium Shutters and Blinds is well known by cottagers, residents and designers in these areas because of our ability to custom make shaped, arched and custom-coloured shutters for the types of windows, commonly used in cottage architecture.

In the District of Muskoka alone ( which includes the towns of Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, and Huntsville; and the townships of Georgian Bay, Lake of Bays, and Muskoka Lakes, The Wahta Mohawk Territory and Moose Point 79) there are 60,000 permanent residents, which number increases during the summer months by another 100,000 seasonal property owners. Many of the seasonal properties are large mansion-like summer estates found along the shores of Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau, and Lake Joseph in popular hubs such as Port Carling and Bala.

Haliburton is a county of Ontario, Canada, known as a tourist and cottage area in Central Ontario for its scenery and for its resident artists. Haliburton County is dubbed the "Haliburton Highlands". The Haliburton Highlands are home to a thriving arts community. The county is dotted by galleries, both public and private, offering events, programs and workshops to the public. Artists’ studios can be found in almost every community, many offering public demonstrations, small galleries, and classes. There are murals and public sculptures in the downtowns of most communities, as well as in park settings. The county is home to the renowned Haliburton Sculpture Forest, a unique outdoor collection of sculptures by Canadian and international artists. The Haliburton Highlands region is also one of the higher points on the Canadian Shield, ranging from 1,066 feet (325 m) at the Haliburton/Stanhope Municipal Airport to 1,450 feet (440 m) above sea level at Sir Sam's Ski Resort in Eagle Lake.

Peterborough County has a growing population of over 134,000 people and is located in Southern Ontario. Peterborough county was named in honor of Col. Peter Robinson, who in 1825 brought 2,000 settlers from Ireland. Major towns and villages within the county include Buckhorn, Lakefield, Norwood, Havelock, Douro, Apsley, Millbrook, Bridgenorth and Oak Lake.

The city of Kawartha Lakes is a mostly rural area and is the size of a typical Ontario county. The main population centres are the communities of Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Omemee and Woodville. The municipality is home to more than 75,000 people. The city’s name is derived from the Anishinaabe language from the word Ka-wa-tha, meaning ‘land of reflections’, it was later changed by tourism promoters to Kawartha meaning ‘bright waters and happy lands.

We work alongside of many of Cottage Country’s fine designers such as Interiors by Marcia and Campbell Design Associates and have completed projects on Bigwin Island and for celebrities like Shania Twain.
