Vaughan (Founded 1850)
Vaughan is a city in Ontario, with a population of over 300,000 people. It is within the region of York, just north of Toronto and just 25 minutes from our location. Vaughan was the fastest-growing municipality in Canada between 1996 and 2006, achieving a population growth rate of 80.2% which nearly doubled the population since 1991 which is the same year that Millenium Shutters and Blinds opened its doors!
Vaughan is made up of six major communities, Woodbridge, Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Maple, Thornhill, Concord and Kleinburg. It is bounded by Caledon and Brampton to the west, King and Richmond Hill to the north, Markham and Richmond Hill to the east, and Toronto, to the south. It is located approximately 25 minutes from Downtown Toronto. Vaughan is home to many attractions such as Canada’s Wonderland, The McMichael Art Collection, Kortright Centre for Conservation and Vaughan Mills Mall.
Fun Facts
The Iroquois used the floodplains, located on the Humber River in Vaughan, to plant corn, beans and squash, known as the three sisters. In the 1950s, University of Toronto excavated artifacts from the Seed-Baker site. Since 1975, more that a million artifacts were discovered and nineteen longhouses were excavated revealing that the village was occupied by the Iroquois from c. 1500 - 1550 AD.
