East Gwillimbury (Founded 1850)
Located just north of our Aurora shop on the East Holland River, East Gwillimbury is a fast growing community of over 23,000 residents. The Growth of the Township is projected to be over 88,000 residents by the year 2031. To ensure that East Gwillimbury's residents are insulated against rising energy costs, Council passed a policy that all new developments of ten units or more comply with Energy Star qualifications and that homes in new subdivisions must have some of the most efficient hot water, heating and air conditioning systems, be upgraded with top-rated insulation, and have draft-proof windows.
Residents who choose Millenium Shutters and Blinds custom wood shutters as their window coverings can save even more on their monthly bills because of the inherent insulating factor and sun-control of wood shutters.
East Gwillimbury was formed by the amalgamation of the Township of East Gwillimbury with all the previously incorporated villages and hamlets within the township. The main centres in East Gwillimbury are the villages of Holland Landing, Queensville, Sharon, and Mount Albert. The smaller hamlets of Holt and Brown Hill are also within town limits. East Gwillimbury takes its name from the family of Elizabeth Simcoe, née Gwillim, wife of Sir John Graves Simcoe, the first Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

The village of Sharon has the significance of being home to the Sharon Temple, the community's most historic building. Once the meeting house of the Children of Peace (or Davidites). It is part of the musical, political, religious and architectural heritage of Ontario and is now a museum and National Historic Site of Canada.
Fun Fact: Queensville was home to Guy Paul Morran and Christine Jessop. Guy Paul Morin was wrongly convicted of the October 1984 murder of his nine-year-old next-door neighbour. No other conviction has been made since his acquittal.
